Catholic Biblical School

The Catholic Biblical School (CBS) provides and in-depth Bible study from a Catholic perspective offered by the University of Dallas.  This comprehensive four-year program covers every book of the Bible and intended for Catholic adults and others who wish to deepen their understanding of scripture.  It is especially recommended for  deacons, religious educators, lectors, and leaders of Bible study groups.  As a CBS student you can strengthen your faith through a deeper knowledge of scripture.  You will learn to:
  • Interpret the Bible in accordance with the Catholic Church and modern biblical scholarship
  • Integrate Bible study with prayer and Christian living
  • Achieve a closer relationship with God's revealed word

CBS classes will be meet once a month from August to May in the Monroe and Shreveport areas.  Some scholarship funds are available.  To enroll (and apply for a scholarship) please complete the application and return to Greco Institute by August 1, 2010.

YEAR I - Monroe (Jesus Good Shepherd Church)

Information Session for New Students  On Saturdays, May 22 and July 17 information sessions and a lecture introducing the Bible will be offered by Jim McGill (former Greco instructor) at the Jesus the Good Shepherd Church at 9:00 AM and repeated again at 1:00 PM.  An afternoon session will also be held on Saturday, June 19 at 1:00 PM. (You need only attend one of these sessions.)  

YEAR II  -   Shreveport (Catholic Center)

Intro to the Bible (Information for Year II)  On Saturday, June 5th lecture introducing the Bible will be offered by University of Dallas instructor, Gene Giuliano, at the Catholic Center 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM.  Learn what the Church teaches about the Bible; how was the Bible written; what is the Catholic approach to biblical inspiration and interpretation.  Information about Year II of the Catholic Biblical School will be presented as well.  New students are welcome and encouraged to attend.

Four-Year Theology Program

In the Fall of 2010 the Diocese of Shreveport will begin training permanent deacons.  This four-year program will be a general introduction to theology. These classes will meet on Saturdays, twice each month, in Ruston, beginning in September. In addition to the deacon candidates, there will be approximately 25 places available for those involved in Religious Education.  There is a cost to the program. Undergraduate credit is available.   To enroll please complete the application and return to Greco Institute or the Office of Diaconate Formation.

Graduate Level Programs

LIMEX - Loyola University Extension Program 

Plans are being made to begin another LIMEX program in the Fall of this year.  In four years, you could have a Masters Degree in theology!  Certificates are available for those without an undergraduate degree.

University of Dallas - School of Ministry

In addition to undergraduate-level programs, the School of Ministry at the University of Dallas offers several Masters Degrees in areas related to theology and religious education.  These classes may be taken online and / or on weekends.  Courses are generally offered during Spring, Summer, and Fall semesters.
